Middle powers & such…

The game allows for unique roles for the United Kingdom, India, and any great power that no player chose to play (considered declining powers, as they are not going to compete). These specific countries have unique benefits that will aid any player that has leverage over the country during the game, such as increasing economic growth, limiting cultural blowback from military operations, or decreasing the costs of certain actions.

Why not include the UK as a Great Power? Because this game is about the FUTURE!  Its demographic trends, economic clout, military size and decreasing global sway for the UK are not likely to grow or even hold steady for the long-term.

What about India or Brazil? I really, really, really wanted to include India. Maybe I will at some point, but the reality of its current domestic unity, military size and existing global clout are all too far behind those of the other powers at hand.  If the game were to start in… 2050 or so it would need to be included, but we wouldn’t have included China as a world power in 2000, despite its growth.

Brazil: Similar story, though its demographic size and political sway are starting at an even lower level.
