You’re definitely oversimplifying things…

Geopolitics is obviously a complicated subject. Politics, history, geography, philosophy, culture, technology, warfare, and now climate change are all inputs into the field of study. Balance of Powers attempts to summarize many of these different themes in digestible ways that still respect the complexity of the topic and all its inputs. Inevitably it’ll fall short, but I hope it encourages open, thoughtful debate with broader empathy/perspective for the different drivers behind the field of study and why different countries take the actions they do.

When people talk about global politics, sweeping generalizations are often made about billions of people in a single country, too much weight is put on the single current leader’s decisions, or the military strength of a country is the primary point of focus. This game aims to show the multiple forces at play in geopolitics and the varied incentives they give for the state, and all of its parts, to take action in one way or another.
